Stage 9 Bets

Lennard Kämna 2pts win @14/1 – 1st

Romain Gregoire 1pt each way (4 places) @25/1

Oier Lazcano 1pt each way (4 places) @25/1

Rune Herregodts 0.5pts each way (4 places) @80/1

Javier Romo 0.5pts each way (4 places) @150/1

Kämna was odds on in-play with around 90km remaining but it looked like the pace behind triggered by the crosswinds was going to scupper the break and their lead was slashed to around 3mins. In the end, it calmed down, allowing Kämna to do his thing – the German is absolute mustard in a breakaway and now has a win at all three Grand Tours on his palmarès. A welcome win too for us after a tricky start.

Stage 10 Preview

Apart from a small bump around 6km in, this 25.8km individual time trial is completely flat and long enough for us to see significant gaps between general classification contenders.

There are quite a few corners to negotiate in the centre of Valladolid before two long, straight stretches which will allow the time trial specialists to make hay.

We should see no repeat of the treacherous conditions experienced during the team time trial in Barcelona as the forecast is for a warm, dry day.

Stage 10 Contenders

Remco Evenepoel (4/6; 1.67) won the world time trial championship in Scotland last month and appears to have quietened doubts after his below-par performance on stage 6, more than likely due to the combined effects of a virus going through the Soudal Quick-Step team and his tumble after the finish line in Andorra. Evenepoel will be looking to put as much time as possible into his GC rivals on stage 10 and is the justified favourite.

Filippo Ganna (2/1; 3.00) finished 12secs behind Evenepoel in Stirling on a course that probably favoured the Italian more. He’s in good form as demonstrated by his surprise second place in the sprint finish on stage 5 and has avoided the falls that have plagued his Ineos Grenadiers teammates.

Jonas Vingegaard (8/1; 9.00) produced the time trial of his life to put the Tour de France to bed in July but his form isn’t at that level right now. He’s still an exceptional time trialist, however, so the question is whether the price is attractive.

Primož Roglič (12/1; 13.00) looks a little ahead of his Jumbo-Visma teammate, Vingegaard, and of course is excellent on the time trial bike though his main aim here will be to minimise time losses to his main GC rival Evenepoel.

Juan Ayuso (20/1; 21.00) has won a hilly individual time trial at the Tour de Romandie and a flatter one at the Tour de Suisse this season, beating Evenepoel. The young Spaniard is clearly going well and could threaten the podium places.

Stefan Bissegger (22/1; 23.00) is the current European time trial champion though has done nothing spectacular in the individual discipline this season. The Suisse has a shot if on one of his good days.

Mattia Cattaneo (33/1; 34.00) was a surprise winner of the Tour of Poland time trial a month ago and, assuming Evenepoel’s teammate isn’t being used to feed information back to the Belgian or saving his legs for the more important domestique work coming up, will fancy a top 5 result.

Given that we’re ten days into a hard Grand Tour and the stage takes place after a rest day, we could get a random result. However, it’s difficult to look past the front two in the betting for the win. But at a more attractive price, that incredible time trial in the Tour de France tilts the selection towards Jonas Vingegaard despite him not being on top form.

Stage 10 Bets

Jonas Vingegaard 0.5pts each way (3 places) @8/1
