Stage 21 Contenders
Stefan Küng (7/2; 4.5) has an excellent chance here of a Grand Tour win having been a nearly man so often. Is in good form and the profile suits.
Brandon McNulty (7/2; 4.5) won the opening day time trial but had a bad fall on stage 13 and not really been in contention since.
Primož Roglič (9/2; 5.5) should do better than his eighth on stage 1 when there were concerns around his fitness. The only worry this time is the wave of sickness that has decimated the Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe team, though Roglič appears unaffected for now.
Mathias Vacek (8/1) was a surprise second on stage 1 at big odds. Has apparently worked hard on his TT over the last 12 months and the course suits a strong man.
Mattia Cattaneo (11/1) has shown good form albeit in a domestique role and can pull out an excellent TT on his day.
Edoardo Affini (12/1) was on the hot seat for a while during stage 1 but ultimately finished fifth, 8secs back. Should be there or thereabouts again.
Jay Vine (20/1) won the TT in Burgos following a near-miraculous recovery from injury. Still isn’t quite at his best though and did plenty of work on stage 20 so would be a surprise if he challenged here.
Victor Campenaerts (22/1) finished down the field on stage 1 but should be closer this time against more fatigued opposition. Rolled in second to last on stage 20 which could be a good or bad sign.
Kasper Asgreen (28/1) has had a low-key Vuelta so nothing to suggest he’ll produce a result here.
Mattias Skjelmose (50/1) is the best TTer in the top 10 alongside Roglič so has a chance of moving up on GC and securing the white jersey.
Mauro Schmid (150/1) has shown he has some of the best legs in the peloton which may count for a lot come the end of three weeks.
